If you’ve ever been part of the great SD&G pizza debate (yes, we know it gets heated!), you’ve definitely heard Waikato Pizza’s name come up more than once - and for good reason.

This week, we’re sending a big congratulations to Alex, owner of Waikato Pizza in Maxville, for an incredible 20 years in business! 🍕👏

A true cornerstone of the Maxville community, Alex has been serving up slices of cheesy, saucy perfection with a smile - and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Recently honoured by the Maxville & District Chamber of Commerce, Alex is not just known for his legendary pies, but also for his steady presence, community spirit, and decades of dedication to the people he serves.

So whether you’re a thin-crust devotee, a pineapple-on-pizza advocate, or just love a good local success story, join us in celebrating Alex and his 20 delicious years at Waikato. Here’s to many more!

WHERE TO GRAB A BITE
🍟 Séguin Patate – A Cornwall Classic with Poutine Perfection

We’re putting our cravings front and centre this week with a local legend: Séguin Patate.

Tucked away on Pitt Street in Cornwall, this spot isn’t just serving fries - they’re serving nostalgia, comfort, and arguably the best poutine in all of SD&G (yes, we said it!). From the squeaky cheese curds to the piping hot, golden fries and rich, savoury gravy that pulls it all together - this is the kind of dish that keeps you coming back again and again.

Whether you’re grabbing a takeout box for a picnic at Lamoureux Park or swinging by after a long workday, there’s something about Séguin that just hits right. It's simple. It's delicious. And it’s a rite of passage for anyone claiming to know good poutine.

💬 Got a favourite order from Séguin Patate? Let us know over on our Facebook page! We’re always down for a good poutine debate… especially if cheese curds are involved. 🧀🍴

THROWBACK CORNER
📸 Cornwall’s Bathtub Races!

Bathtub Races - Photo Cred: Thom Racine

Before the Crazy Raisin River Canoe Race had folks paddling in (mostly) proper vessels, Cornwall had an entirely different kind of water race - one that required a little plumbing, a lot of balance, and no shortage of bravery.

Yes, we’re talking about Cornwall’s legendary Bathtub Races!

Pictured here is a fantastic crowd gathered along the canal, cheering on racers who took to the water in literal bathtubs (with a few questionable flotation upgrades). It’s pure local nostalgia - and proof that Cornwall has never shied away from fun, quirky traditions that bring the community together.

Do you remember the bathtub races? Were you in the crowd or brave enough to climb into the tub? We’d love to hear your stories!

PET OF THE WEEK
🐾 Meet Mocha! 🐱

Look at those eyes!

It’s been a little while since we gave a feline friend the spotlight, and we’re making up for lost time with this week’s featured sweetheart - say hello to Mocha, a gorgeous six-year-old ragdoll with the kind of baby blues that could melt the iciest of hearts.

Mocha is all about the simple joys in life: a cozy nap, a soft purr, and the occasional affectionate headbutt. She’s gentle, serene, and ready to find her forever home - somewhere with quiet comforts and a human or two to curl up beside.

If you’ve been waiting for the purr-fect companion, now’s the time. Come meet this lovely lady and see if she’s the missing piece in your home. 🐾

COMMUNITY WINS
🌱 200+ Reasons to Breathe Easy in Cornwall!

On May 21, the City of Cornwall teamed up with the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) to bring a little more green to our city - and the results were nothing short of inspiring!

Thanks to support from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, the community came together to plant over 200 new trees along Danis Ave., Lefebvre Ave., Easton Ave., and more than 40 additional trees in St. Joseph Park, Lafave Park, and surrounding Housing Services properties.

This event, part of the Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative, isn’t just about beautifying our neighbourhoods - it’s about creating cleaner air, enhancing local biodiversity, and building a greener, healthier Cornwall for all of us.

🌳 Huge thanks to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and dug into this meaningful work. Your community spirit and care for our environment are what make SD&G shine! 🌞💚

ESTATE & NEIGHBOURHOOD BUZZ
🏡 Mid-Century Magic Meets Riverfront Bliss

Wait until you see the view!

This week’s dream listing takes us to 1316 Montreal Road in Cornwall - and it’s nothing short of spectacular.

Originally built in the golden age of the 1950s, this riverfront gem effortlessly blends timeless mid-century charm with today’s modern comforts. Spread across two waterfront parcels on the St. Lawrence River, the home boasts postcard-worthy views and a layout made for both relaxing and entertaining.

Step inside and soak in the natural light pouring through the large bay window in the front living room, where you can curl up beside the gas fireplace and take in one of the best views in town. The main level also features a stylishly updated kitchen with granite countertops, a breakfast bar and eat-in nook, along with a separate dining area and cozy family room that opens to a private backyard patio.

The primary bedroom offers double walk-in closets and a lovely ensuite, while a second main-floor bedroom (currently set up as a home office) and an updated bathroom round out the space. Upstairs, you’ll find two more bedrooms, another full bath, and not one but two wraparound rooftop terraces - perfect for your morning coffee or sunset watch.

And let’s talk about the water: two separate parcels give you plenty of waterfront access, including a landing with stairs to the river and a DockRite-style removable dock and boat lift. Whether you're a boater, swimmer, or sunset watcher, this property delivers front-row access to Cornwall's riverside lifestyle.
