SD&G Scoop – Your Local Lowdown for November 13-20, 2025!
This Week’s Scoop: Survey Laughs, Local Homes & Holiday Happenings!
Hey there, Cornwall & SD&G crew! 👋
Hope you’ve got a warm drink in hand and are cozied up for another fresh edition of The Scoop as we’ve got a fun one for you this week!
First off, a big thank you to everyone who answered last week’s career-focused survey. The results are in… and let’s just say: we’re jealous (but in the happiest way possible!) 😄
The majority of you shared that you are officially retired and enjoying life - relaxing, exploring, gardening, spending time with family, and embracing the good stuff. Truly well-earned, and we love to see it! 🎉
We also noticed something else from your feedback… many of you told us that one of your favourite parts of The Scoop is the Estate & Neighbourhood Buzz section - and honestly, same! It’s always fun to peek inside local gems, dream a little, and see what’s happening in our own backyard. 🏡
But we also know that not everyone is in a position to buy or own a home right now. So we’re curious…
👉 Would you like us to start featuring local rentals in that section too?
Renting or home ownership? |
From cozy apartments to country homes and everything in between, we’re thinking it could be a great way to highlight more of what’s available across SD&G. Let us know - we love shaping this newsletter with you.
Alright, coffee refills ready? Let’s jump into what’s happening this week around our beautiful community!

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOUR
👋 Adding a Splash of Holiday Spirit — One Window at a Time with Casper Brown!

If you’ve strolled past a storefront lately and caught yourself smiling at a cheerful pumpkin or friendly ghost painted on the window and there’s a good chance it was the handiwork of Casper Brown! 🎨👻
Casper first discovered a love for window painting during a co-op placement and has been turning blank glass into seasonal art ever since. From festive Peanuts scenes at Christmas to spooky-cute Halloween designs, Casper’s work adds a pop of colour and joy to local businesses and we think it’s exactly the kind of creative touch that makes our community shine. 🌟
With the holiday season around the corner, Casper is hoping to bring even more storefronts to life with hand-painted displays that spread cheer and charm. It’s amazing how a few brushstrokes can transform a window into a story, giving small businesses that cozy, festive feel we all love this time of year. 🎄🖌️
Interested in brightening up your shop window? Reach out to Casper as this is one local artist you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on!

THROWBACK CORNER
📸 The Bowling Palace of Cornwall

Here’s a blast from the not-so-distant past that’ll strike a chord with many longtime Cornwall residents! 👀
Back in December 1998, the Wiley family of Cornwall teamed up with CBM International Inc. to open the $6.3 million, 32-lane, 10-pin Bowling Palace - a true local landmark that quickly became the place for birthday parties, league nights, and glow-in-the-dark fun. ✨
With its giant bowling pin statues out front and sleek, modern design, this place wasn’t just a bowling alley - it was a palace, literally! Four years in the making, it officially celebrated its grand opening on March 25, 1999, marking the start of countless memories and friendly competitions.
Did you ever bowl a perfect game (or come close!) at the Bowling Palace? 🎳 Share your stories or old photos — we’d love to feature them in a future Scoop!

COMMUNITY WINS
🏆 Martintown’s 25ft Poppy Wreath Tribute

In a truly moving show of remembrance and community spirit, the Martintown Mill is now adorned with a breathtaking 25-foot poppy wreath that is lovingly handmade from 1,500 individual poppies created by local residents. 🌺
This powerful display stands as a tribute to the 26 brave souls from our SD&G communities who lost their lives in World War I and II, as well as to all those who have served and continue to serve our country.
The project, crafted with care and collaboration, reminds us that remembrance is more than a moment of silence - it’s a community effort to honour courage, sacrifice, and the freedoms we enjoy today. 🇨🇦
