Pumpkins, Pancakes & Plenty to Do – SD&G is Buzzing This Week! 🍁
🍂 Hello, neighbours!
Fall is in full swing and SD&G is buzzing with activity - from sweet and spooky markets to toe-tapping tributes at The Port Theatre, not to mention a Pumpkinferno shuttle that saves you the parking headache! 🎃✨ Whether you’re into arts, music, or just soaking up the cozy fall vibes, there’s something for everyone this week.
Before we dive in, we’ve got a fun question for you: What’s the one thing you don’t mind splurging on at home? 💸 Is it food and drink (because cheese boards and wine don’t count as “extras,” right? 😉), home improvement projects, entertainment, or maybe health and wellness? Hit the poll below and let us know, we’d love to feature your answers in a future Scoop.
What’s the one thing you don’t mind spending extra on? |
Before we get into it, have a look at a wonderful fall shot that Mark Day took!

Now grab your pumpkin spice latte (or your fishing rod if you’re brave enough for carp season!) and let’s see what’s happening this week around town.

WHERE TO GRAB A BITE
🥞 Fluffy Pancakes at Home (With a Silly Amount of Maple Syrup!)
Instead of heading out this week, we’re sharing one of our favourite stay-at-home comfort foods - the Best Fluffy Pancakes recipe from Café Delites cafedelites.com. These golden stacks are soft, airy, and oh-so-delicious — the kind you want to drown in a generous pour of maple syrup (we’re talking silly amounts here, because why not?).
The secret? A simple batter, cooked low and slow until bubbles form, then flipped to reveal that perfect golden-brown. Add some berries, whipped cream, or keep it classic with butter and syrup - either way, your weekend breakfast (or dinner, no judgment!) just got an upgrade. Oh, and make sure the milk is room temperature!

THROWBACK CORNER
📸 The Blue Anchor: Then & Now

Courtesy of Dianne Blais
Talk about a glow-up! The Blue Anchor, shown here in a “before and after” snapshot, has been a local landmark for generations. From its humble beginnings as a simple lakeside stop to the bustling waterfront spot we know today, it’s been a part of countless memories in our community.
These days, the Blue Anchor isn’t just a piece of history - it’s also home to one of our favourite patios to enjoy during the summer months. 🌞🍹 There’s nothing quite like sitting by the water, soaking up the view, and sharing a good meal with friends as boats float by on the St. Lawrence.
Now that summer has officially slipped away (goodbye, patio season 😢), it feels extra special to look back at this local gem and the role it’s played in our community’s story.
👉 Do you have a favourite Blue Anchor memory? Maybe a family meal, a summer sunset, or a night out with friends? Share it with us - we’d love to feature your stories in a future Scoop!
PET OF THE WEEK
🐶 120 Happily-Ever-Afters!

Courtesy of Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre
This week, instead of spotlighting just one furry friend, we’re celebrating over 120 animals who found their forever homes during the Ontario SPCA’s iAdopt: Furever Homes adoption event held September 26–28. 🎉 Thanks to the incredible support of volunteers, families, and sponsors (including HomeEquity Bank), these pets are now settling into their new lives full of love, cuddles, and second chances.
The event wasn’t just about adoptions - it was a true celebration of community. Families came together, volunteers worked tirelessly, and supporters stepped up to give animals the happily-ever-afters they deserve. Special guest Kurt Browning even joined in to shine a light on pets still waiting for homes.
Couldn’t make it? Don’t worry - there are still plenty of animals looking for families to love them. 🐶🐱 You can meet them at ontariospca.ca/adopt.
💌 A big thank-you to everyone who helped make this adoption event such a heartwarming success. Together, we’re making a difference one adoption at a time!
COMMUNITY WINS
🐢 A Turtle Rescue Story

A few weeks back, we received a message from Melanie, who had come across a badly injured painted turtle on the road and wasn’t sure where to turn for help. Thanks to our earlier feature on The SDG Turtles, we were able to quickly connect her with Nicole, a local turtle rescuer extraordinaire.
Nicole swooped in (cape not required 😉) and came to the turtle’s aid, giving it the best possible chance at recovery. It was one of those beautiful reminders of how powerful our community can be when we come together - from Melanie’s compassion in stopping to help, to Nicole’s expertise and dedication to protecting wildlife.
Moments like this may seem small, but they add up to something much bigger: a community that cares deeply about its people, its animals, and its environment. 🌿✨
👉 Have a story like this you’d like to share? Send it our way - we love celebrating the wins that make SDG such a special place to live!
JUST FOR FUN
🎯 Games Corner – Just for Fun!
Did you know Cornwall is famous for its carp fishing? Anglers from all over the world travel here to test their skills on the mighty St. Lawrence River. These aren’t your average little fish either and we’re talking 30 to 40-pound carp that put up one heck of a fight! 💪
With hot spots like Lamoureux Park and Guindon Park offering great access for both shore fishing and boaters, it’s no wonder our river is on the radar of so many fishing enthusiasts.
